Acoustic Doors

Acoustic door sets provide sound attenuation between rooms and spaces by incorporating a sound-rated acoustic door, frame hardware and acoustic seals. Whether for school music rooms, concert halls, commercial sound studios, or privacy rooms, the Spence Doors range prevents noise interference while enhancing acoustics.
Spence Doors has a range of hinged acoustic doors with listed performance from Rw 38 up to Rw 48. Our acoustic door systems use layers of insulating material to effectively reduce noise transmission between rooms and use a proprietary 58mm thick composite single side-hung door construction.
With independent sound measurement test reports from the CSIRO / Acoustic Engineering Laboratories our Acoustic Door Systems meet Australian Standard AS1191:2002 & ISO 140.3:1195 for acoustic performance, you can be confident of increased productivity, whether for industrial or residential use.

How to install acoustic doors

When installing acoustic doors, it is crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to ensure proper sound insulation and functionality.

  • Position the door frame in the opening, ensuring it is square and centred. Shim the frame as needed to eliminate any gaps between the frame and wall - shims should maintain the frame's plumb and level.
  • Securely fasten the frame to the wall using the appropriate fasteners at the locations specified by the manufacturer.
  • Carefully lift the door and place it into the prepared frame opening.
  • Align the door hinges with the frame hinges and install the hinge pins.
  • Adjust the door so there is an even gap between the door and frame on all sides.
  • Install the door hardware following manufacturer's instructions.
  • Use backer rod and acoustic sealant to fill any gaps between the door frame and wall in a continuous, airtight seal around the entire frame.
  • Install any trim pieces or cover plates to conceal the sealed gaps.
  • Adjust the bottom, side, and top door seals to ensure a tight, consistent seal when the door is closed.
  • Ensure the automatic bottom seal makes full contact with the threshold or floor when the Check the door seals create an effective acoustic barrier when closed.
